Hot-Head Haaland
When Arsenal visited Manchester City in September, the game was turned on its head just before half-time when Leandro Trossard was sent off for delaying the restart.
The second half that followed is perhaps the highest quality game of attack vs defence ever played. It was a blue barrage against an organised Arsenal for 45 minutes.
No one took this defence more personally than goal-machine Erling Haaland – and his celebration to City’s 98th minute equaliser showed it.
The Norwegian threw the ball at centre-back Gabriel’s head immediately after John Stones drew the champions level.
He then squared up to Gabriel immediately after kickoff, and was absolutely writhing with anger.
Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly then tried to intervene between the two – at which point Haaland looked at him and appears to say “who the f**k are you?!”.
It was a box office end to a crazy game.
Palmer Avoids Forest Fight
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer is widely recognised not only as one of the Premier League’s very best, but also as one of its calmest players.
This has never stood more true as when many of his teammates were involved in a coming together with opposition Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.
Almost everyone both on the pitch and on the bench was involved in the tussle, but Cole Palmer took himself off and just sat down.
His composure is admirable, but there is something highly entertaining about a team’s talisman completely avoiding the confrontation.
White Undoes Vicario’s Gloves
Ben White badgering opposition goalkeepers became an integral part of Arsenal’s set-piece routine last season.
The Englishman is known for being a pain to deal with and he frequently succeeds in winding opponents up.
The highlight of his nuisance is inarguably the moment he tried to undo the gloves of Tottenham goalkeeper Vicario in April’s North London Derby.
Vicario was clearly distracted by White’s presence and persistence – that Arsenal scored from the corner.
Unfortunately for White, Premier League rules have changed to prevent goalkeepers being harassed from corners, but the 27-year-old has found new ways to keep himself entertained on the field, such as below where he is shown booting the ball at Aston Villa’s John McGinn in response to McGinn kicking the ball at William Saliba.
It’s primary school-level pettiness.
Guardiola’s Emotional Rollercoaster
When Tottenham hosted Manchester City towards the end of the 2023/24 Premier League season, City traveled to North London needing a win to assert themselves as title favourites over Arsenal.
Naturally, the game was a high-pressure affair for City – although Tottenham fans were largely unsure who to support
Emotions peaked for City boss Pep Guardiola when Tottenham’s always reliable Son Heung-Min found himself 1 on 1 with City’s second choice goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.
The 53-year-old fell to his knees, then on the floor when the South Korean was through on goal.
Son missed, but you can see the millions of thoughts Guardiola had in the moments leading up to Son’s shot.
Chelsea Players Fighting For A Penalty
3 years ago, Chelsea were fighting for the Champions League. But last season when they were sat in mid-table, Mauricio Poccettino’s side resorted to fighting over who would take penalties.
While this is something new boss Enzo Maresca quickly put a stop to – to the relief of every Chelsea fan, it is now bizarre to look back a few months and see just how disconnected the Blues were with one another.
Noni Madueke, Enzo Fernandez and Nicholas Jackson were all regular culprits of trying to take the ball from regular taker Cole Palmer.
It was a bizarre affair to witness every time, especially considering that fans were going through enough already.
Thankfully for Chelsea fans, Maresca has turned Stamford Bridge around and it is unlikely we will see something like this again.
